I’ve been thinking for a long time about 35mm compact cameras. I used to have a few, but didn’t really understand the hype around it. Got rid of them, found caring home for them but deep down I missed having one. I prefered manual cameras, somehow I felt more part of the photo using manual focus and adjusting everything by myself. But started to realize the negatives as well. I was constantly buying and selling them, I love trying new things and it’s the same with gear. Life is too short to shoot with only one camera and lens.
Most of the time I use the Yashica Electro 35gsn - which is half way between an automatic and a complete manual camera - and the Chinon CM-4s. But more about them in another post! None of them has built-in flash and they won’t fit in any of my pockets. Felt the need for something I can carry around everywhere, and use for portraits and lifestyle shots at night. Since they’re getting more and more popular -the new hype after lomography is the little point & shoots - prices are unbelievable. First I didn’t want to spend a lot, just to decide after one roll, that I don’t really like fully automatic cameras.
After weeks of searching and reading, a bargain came up that I couldn’t turn dow. Bought a Nikon AF230 and a Canon SureShot Joy. They’re one of the cheapest ones in the market and I guess the lens quality will show that, but I’m excited. I have to find battery for the Canon, but the Nikon is already loaded with expired Kodak BW400CN. Until now I love the feeling and the completely different way of shooting with it. Already started looking for better ones, like the Konica Big Mini or something in that league. To be continued:)
